Thank you. Serif fonts bother you? I don't know - they feel right to me, but perhaps I am wrong. At first I wanted to use them for titles and navigation only, but I didn't like the result of combination with any sans-serif that I tried. I realise that the translation could be better - I received it from a client and notified him about that, but I think he'll stick with the current one.

I am not offended and there is no need to remove the pictures - perhaps I could use a quick tip or two, but that was not the reason for creating this topic. I was just wondering, how many people find this design boring or if it looks like something that was "quickly thrown together" as my client labeled it. Since I am not a beginner, I was wondering if something eludes me ...

Here's the thing - my(our) client is not happy and he used some pretty harsh words - I am not dealing with him directly though, and I have dealt with so many clients, that I don't take that (too)personally anymore, but I would like to solve this problem. He said, that the website was "quickly put together", that design is dull - he wants more "homely" or "cosy" look and "modern/vintage" background, whatever is meant by that ... And yes fonts have to go! Look of the website was up to me - I didn't receive any wishes or guidelines. I realize, that monospace fonts are not likable to everybody(to say the least), but I have seen this kind of look a lot of times, while browsing through showcases - monospace font for body copy, large thin fonts for headings, slight grunge efect on some elements, ... I even used a plaid pattern for background, but that was another no-no ... I assumed, that this king of look is not everybody's cup of tea and that there might be complications, but I wouldn't call this design "quickly put together" and dull. Would you? About the logo - thank you for your suggestion, but it is not available in a proper format.

Thank you. Actually, the client wanted blue buttons, but we agreed on transparent ones. Something like this happened to me before, but it still bothers me. Those buttons just don't fit.

Thank you. The original site was a "one pager" with less content, no images, without contact form, news section/page, ... Navigation style wasn't my idea - it is a compromise. And yes - the language is Slovene.

Thank you. Website is about a local institute, which joined together four (well, three - one is still non existent) different institutes - one of them is cultural, yes. It was (is) quite a challenge, because I received almost no content, except for name and address, a .pdf about founding of the institute and names of the joined institutes - that was it. Logo is not finished yet, so perhaps I'll wait with color combinations.

Arrows and borders added in sidebar. Even some rounded corners, noise texture and gradient in footer. I haven't heard from my client yet, though.

Hi! I need some advice, opinions, suggestions for the website that I am currently making, especially for the main and sidebar menu. In my clients opinion, they are too minimal, plain, dull ... I do not think that adding some borders or arrows would change his opinion. Sure, I can add some decoration, color, gradients, rounded corners, buttons, but I just don't see it. I think that current style suits the topic or theme of the website. Maybe I'm wrong. It's about gardening or landscaping, as well. And if it wasn't - Check the large clickable photo(first prize for "picnic on a lawn"). And even if that was missing, I don't think that grassy bg would be far off. Were you implying on a cliche? In Slovenia (I don't know about the rest of Europe), there is still huge amount of people, who haven't actually seen or adjusted to certain webdesign trends (improvements, directives, changes, ... ?). Some are still in "web 2.0" and some even further back - frames, bevel & emboss nav buttons, ... Some clients fear the lack of borders, white backgrounds, subtle effects, and they feel, that they get their money's worth, when you add some "stickys", some reflections, gloss, 75% 5px 5px drop shadows, ... Rough business, this webdesign business ... Was the last question a question or suggestion?

Previous and temporary. I'll be making some small changes soon. I already asked you - was the pattern distracting, or was it the color? I mean, previous bg was pretty pale. And what about a color palette? With previous version - except logo, red button, links and sticky, I think it was acceptable. I figured, I should use a small amount of red color from the logo somewhere - I didn't think it would do too much damage, especially, when it is "call to action". And sticky note can probably be forgiven. I already said, that I almost never use #ff0000 or #0000ff, but sometimes ... Another thing about color palette - "the code is more what you'd call 'guidelines' than actual rules" . And don't get me wrong - I don't mind criticism - I mean, I put my page up for review.

I appreciate the effort, but green version feels cold to me and it has no contrast with the background. What did you mean by "But green color is too dark"?

Personally, I didn't find it exactly distracting, but I didn't liked it very much, either. About "the red" - it came with the logo, but personally, I agree - I almost never use those pure red, green or blue colors.

Thank You. I would say that one of potentially bad points is lack of "current page indicator" in main menu. But because I'm new in WordPress and not very experienced in PHP it will take some time. Guilty. I'll deal with it. Thank you! I tested in blue, brown, green, ... this was my favorite. I agree about positioning of logo, but if logo was smaller it would be illegible, if it stayed the same size, it might as well be centered, because I don't know what would I put in top right side of the page. Would You paste a screenshot, I don't know what You mean, or how do You see the button. Thank You. The number of sets of "mono" icons, that I went through ... It is a contrast. Maybe not that bad at all. Is this what is called "artistic license"?
