  1. Cheers Mate I will look into this, looks great!! chris
  2. Hi All Before I start, I would just like to say, I have learned more about web design from this forum than any book I have on the subject, so thanks all for you help. I would just like to ask what your recommendations are for building a simple web gallery in Dreamweaver CS3, I am using this as I have been asked to try and help some kids to build a website and they only have Dreamweaver CS3, I know there are Lightbox plugins for CS4,but not CS3, I like the Lightbox effect and would like to implement this type of gallery in the test site, but it looks a little confusing for me, what do you all use for your galleries, do you build them yourself or use an mxp or something else? By the way just in case you are thinking, why are they asking a guy to teach who knows little about Web Design, well my background is in Graphics and Print and I have been away from web design for so long,I have forgotten how things work, plus the fact that it has advanced so much since, so back to the drawing board for me to refresh and update and learn, and thanks to this particular forum it's working : ) Cheers All Chris
  3. Sorry for the delay in getting back have been ill for a bit, I have sorted out a bit, but due to the illness not much, anyway could I ask a few questions, as these are really baffling me: 1. Could I just use the class selector to style all my text, images. 2. What is the difference between Advanced Selector in CS3 and Compound Selector in CS4 ( I have upgraded to CS4 and the Advanced Selector is gone? )Should I use the Compound Selector like I did with Advanced Selector in CS3? Cheers Peeps
  4. Hi Gareth Cheers mate that link was great, I am going to try a few things then will post the code.

  6. Hi I would like to add the menu in the navbar div but I am not sure which way to achieve this, lets say I have the following: HOME | ABOUT | GALLERY | MEDIA | CONTACT and the code is something like: <ul> <li><a href="#">home</a></li> <li><a href="#">about</a></li> <li><a href="#">gallery</a></li> <li><a href="#">media</a></li> <li><a href="#">contact</a></li> </ul> but when I put the above code in the <div id="navbar"> like below it is all out, I would just like it to be sit inside the <div id="navbar">, I know I have to assign a css rule to it: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" /> <title>Sample Site</title> <link href="Css/layout.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> </head> <body> <div id="container"> <div id="header">Content for id "header" Goes Here</div> <div id="navbar"> <ul> <li><a href="#">home</a></li> <li><a href="#">about</a></li> <li><a href="#">gallery</a></li> <li><a href="#">media</a></li> <li><a href="#">contact</a></li> </ul> <div id="content">Content for id "content" Goes Here</div> <div id="footer">Content for id "footer" Goes Here</div> </div> </body> </html>
  7. Thanks for the link, would you be so kind to let me know if I have set this up the right way, I would like to add a horizontal menu bar in the navbar div , should I make the div a parent like in the container div? And please be gentle I am a newbie Thanks All <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" /> <title>Sample Site</title> <link href="Css/layout.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> </head> <body> <div id="container"> <div id="header">Content for id "header" Goes Here</div> <div id="navbar">Content for id "navbar" Goes Here</div> <div id="content">Content for id "content" Goes Here</div> <div id="footer">Content for id "footer" Goes Here</div> </div> </body> </html>

  9. Cheers Mate I am in the process of learning CSS / html and have ordered a few books to enlighten me, do you use any particular editor to code? Thanks for all the feedback peeps, really appreciate it : ) Chris
  10. Hi I am looking to build a website using divs for the layout, but would like to add some eye candy around the site, not much but to give it a little spruce up, Should the graphics be in the container div? example: http://busfullofhippies.johnoxton.co.uk/ Thanks
  11. Hi All Thanks for the replies, would you mind giving me your design process, I am learning quite a bit already and css is what I would like to build my website with, what I meant by slice was to individually export images from Photoshop, like header and footer graphics.. Thanks Again, and I am starting to love this place! Chris
  12. Hi pippin62 That is exactly what I think, but would you recommend slicing up the images and saving the images without the html then importing them into divs in Dreamweaver? Thank you for the reply : ) Chris
  13. Hi All My name is Chris and I have just joined this forum and it looks very exiting indeed, but I have a little knowledge of Dreamweaver but plenty in Photoshop, also I am currently learning Dreamweaver and CSS ( beginner )I would like to ask a question but I don't know if this is the right place to post if not please forgive me. Would it be possible to answer the following for me please: What are your recommendations on how to build a website: 1. Design a Layout in Photoshop then slice and import into Dreamweaver. 2. Design the layout in Dreamweaver and then import images from Photoshop to fit. or if you have any other way of Designing your site please could you specify. Thank You All !! Chris PS: Sorry if this post is in the wrong place : )
