Confused dot com and I'm not talking insurance
The Fool Monty replied to The Fool Monty's topic in SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) & Search EnginesI already have a blog, using blogger as it happens, only updated it yesterday? Think I've created the htacess file? not sure if it's loaded in correctly? Not sure how the crumbing thing works/helps, but I've had to design this myself as I did look at pre formatted sites, moonfruit etc but their designs were too prescriptive and I couldn't get anything to match my branding. But hey ho, will try to figure out how to do it.... As for the red and yellow, that's my brand, it's what I wear to perform in, it's the colours of the county I'm from and also from a DDA point of view which web design rarely seems to consider it's very good, any red or black on yellow is easier for partially sighted/sight impaired readers to see. So that's not likely to change. One thing has just crossed my mind though, I added the word Jester into my site, so it's The Fool Monty Jester and it's since then that my listings went down, I think? could it be because the back links I did have related to the search The Fool Monty (without Jester)?

Confused dot com and I'm not talking insurance
The Fool Monty replied to The Fool Monty's topic in SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) & Search EnginesThen I don't get it at all, I'm on more than 5, I just recounted, directories for magicians, entertainers, local business searches and the all have links to my home page or weddings page. So why are they not being counted? Just flumoxed by that.

The Fool Monty replied to The Fool Monty's topic in SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) & Search EnginesFair points but just so I can understand. www bigbrumparty co uk this is the no1 local search result after directories. I can't see any links on their site? www mrfuzzy co uk or on his? I'm listed on 5 directories, on dmoz, via all the social media pages I have and yet I have no links? Somethings not right there?

Confused dot com and I'm not talking insurance
The Fool Monty replied to The Fool Monty's topic in SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) & Search EnginesI've just checked out your site and its very clear what the problem is. Your On page SEO is not too bad. You have the main aspects and decent content but Google needs confirmation that your site is quality. Therefore Google looks to see how popular your site is by the amount of other sites linking to yours. You have no one linking to you! the issue is that other people in the same line don't link to each other as it's a short cut to loosing business. I would advise getting links from directories specific to your industry and local to your area. Also use your social media pages more and announce offers etc - get those people visiting your site! I've tried asking for reciprocal links but to no avail, just can't get people to do it. Also I am on directories and for some reason those links seem to have vanished? Also you seem to have a lot of different competitive keywords. Try something easier like Childrens entertainer in ...., and make that your title. I have a lot of key words because of the nature of my work, I do lots of different things so have to cover lots of bases... tough call. Good luck! Thank you though.

Confused dot com and I'm not talking insurance
The Fool Monty replied to The Fool Monty's topic in SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) & Search EnginesI've left a couple of the css tags empty so you can add your own styles. Just upload both files to your server (AFTER you've made a back up of your current ones) to test. Then use the index html as a template for your other pages. Hope this helps. That's really kind of you. Sorry for being thick here, but I've just cut and pasted all of the above into new Dreamweaver pages (starting from code blank of course). But I am a a little confused. When I look at the index page on DW there's no colour etc, does that auto pull from the Css sheet that I save to the server as well?

Confused dot com and I'm not talking insurance
The Fool Monty replied to The Fool Monty's topic in SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) & Search EnginesThanks for all of that. Although the trouble I have is not knowing what good code should look like? Are there any resources you can suggest or "perfect" sites that I could look at to set me straight. I have made some changes though so appreciate knowing if I've done the right things?

The Fool Monty replied to The Fool Monty's topic in SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) & Search EnginesIt was ranking in the 50's in the uk for most of the terms then vanished! running for over 2 years but several incarnations. But: How do I stop being a word? How do I clean up the code?

Confused dot com and I'm not talking insurance
thefoolmonty .co uk (excuse the space but I cannot post links yet) is my own, self built, self seo'd, self everything'd site. I've taken lots of advice and have tried with my limited knowledge and basic understanding of Dreamweaver to make my site as good as I can. So, I've used good titles, descriptions, meta date, H1 - H6 tags on my pages in sequence and once per page only. I've got a Facebook page, twitter acc, diggit, linkedin profiles as well as a blog. so why is my site performing so poorly in searches. My core key words/search terms are quite broad though in order of importance to my business: 1) Children's Entertainer 2) Wedding Entertainer 3) Schools Workshops 4) Corporate Magician as well as a whole host of derivatives and variations of these terms. the one thing I lack and struggle with is links. Entertainers don't like to promote other entertainers on their sites and there aren't that many other ways to network in a link fashion. Do I send a request to all of my twitter contacts in the same business asking for a link sharing deal? thanks, I'm going grey trying to improve my conversions here! Please help.

My site is not doing well in searches
Line 98, Column 4: unclosed start-tag requires SHORTTAG YES <div align="center"><img src="The-Fool-Monty-index.jpg" alt="The Fool Monty … ✉ The construct <foo<bar> is valid in HTML (it is an example of the rather obscure “Shorttags” feature) but its use is not recommended. In most cases, this is a typo that you will want to fix. If you really want to use shorttags, be aware that they are not well implemented by browsers. I keep getting errors about this code but don't understand what the issue is or how to change it?

My site is not doing well in searches
Hi all, My site thefoolmonty.co.uk is doing really badly in the searches at the moment and I'm drawing a blank as to why. I've got all the descriptions, keywords and content that I need but it's just vanished of late from searches? Help, no results = no bookings...
