  1. Thanks for the quick response. MY ISP (plus.net) seems to use MySQL so I will start off with that. I have had a quick look at the tutorial from Tizag - it looks good and I am sure it answers all the questions I have, but what I am looking for is a REALLY basic outline about what SQL is and how it can be used. I know nothing about SQL and need to visualise what it can do before I can learn about it. Any pointers would be great (and sorry for the really silly questions).
  2. Is there a difference between SQL and MySQL? If so which would be the best route to follow? My web knowledge / ability is limited to static sites so far, but I need to look into adding some dynamic elements. Basically I am looking into a way to allow potential customers to select a number of items from a list, a price would then be calculated and a quotation emailed to them automatically. Is SQL / MySQL a good route to go down or is their another option?
  3. I am looking into changing / improving / renewing our company website to make it more interactive. The company organises and runs outdoor activities (quad bikes, paintball, clay shooting etc) and I am the one who looks after the website. My aim is to add some functionality to the site, but I lack the knowledge to know which path to take. I would like to create a system that will allow a potential customer to do the following online: - Read a brief summary of how an event works and fits together - Select a number of different activities that they would like to incorporate - Select roughly how many people they are thinking of bringing along - Enter their details (email, name, tel. no etc) - A quotation is generated and emailed to the customer as a PDF and a copy emailed to me. - Possibly check availability online / book online / pay online I am sure this can be done (using PHP, AJAX ???) and I am more than willing to learn about the best way forward and implement the system. I just have no idea about which language / system I should be looking at. Any help / guidance would be greatly appreciated.
