Been looking at this on the Dynamic Drive which I may / may not use. http://www.dynamicdrive.com/style/layouts/category/C9/ I know I don't want to use Frames. I only want a column / row? layout. i.e. header, content and footer .. with a possible left hand side menu system. Haven't drawn out my designs on paper yet as been to busy with work. Will look into it more deeper. I am using Dreamweaver 8 as a WYSIWYG application to produce the site as I prefer working in such enviroments comapred with the coder exnviroment but I do find I can go in and understand it all. When I did a javascript menu system I had no trouble doing this. Stored it in a .js file and simply looked it up on each of my pages.

Thanks all, Undecided on my layout yet as can't decided between using a table layout or attempting CSS which I'm still researching and trying to get my head around. Have already sorted out using a CSS navigation but the layout thing is a little difficult to understand. PS: Didn't understand what you meant by "whether it's a liquid/fluid or fixed layout"

Hi all, Quick intro: I have had experience in web design for about 4 years. I have had experience using JavaScript for navigation, CSS styles for text formatting and I understand a fair amount of HTML. I have also experienced SQL and PHP but not in depth as I did the SSADM part of my university degree. Considered myself able to learn new techniques within web design to produce an intermediate design as I am no expert at all. I have come to a point though where I need a few questions answering if that's alright before going ahead and designing; let alone implementing anything 1) I have 3 different topic areas that I want to include in my web site/s (i.e. My Flight Sim work, my MS Train Sim Work and my main content which is on my charity raising music Album). Is it better to have a main index page linking to 3 web sites; or have these as one web site with a good navigation? I personal think having one main index page linking to 3 separate web sites (but still giving access to the other 2 web sites on each). Your advice is appreciated here. 2) For the navigation is it best to use a javascript menu (see images below) or a CSS Style menu system? Provide reasons for your responses please. 3) With regards to layout I have always used one table split up into cells (see images below). I did once use frames but found it to be bad practice with navigation and bookmarking of pages - plus some browsers did not support frames. I have read up and discovered that I made the mistake of using pixels rather than percentage so understand that. From my research I have done tonight though I have discovered that CSS Styles can also be used (source: http://www.dynamicdrive.com/style/layouts/category/C12/). Which is better to use out of using a basic HTML table layout (illustrated below) which I find easy to use. Or CSS styles? Old web site that I last designed which is now not uploaded.
