I recently upgraded to CS3 to help with workflow as I get a load of files in illustrator and photoshop format, and have to supply the same back, but I work in Fireworks.

 

Fireworks has the new great feature of Pages, so you can have the entire website layout within one file very simply without having tons of layers to switch on and off - so now it's very easy to manage site designs.

 

However if I want to save the file as a PSD to send to a client - only the current page showing is saved into the the PSD and the file size is twice as big as the original PNG file which contains all the pages - odd?

 

firstly - is there a way to save the fireworks file so that you can open it in photoshop and see all the separate page designs? If not then that's a huge flaw in the software!

 

secondly - why is the photoshop file so much bigger in filesize than the fireworks file when it contains less info.

 

I've got one fireworks file that has eight page layouts in it for one site. If I want to supply these to my client so they can pass them onto their programmers to build I have to selecet each page individually and save that as a PSD which means the client gets 8 separate files rather than one nifty fireworks file that contains the lot.

 

Maybe I'm missing something as I've never really used photoshop before.

 

Any help much appreciated.

Not used Fireworks, but just a thought have you flattened the layers in the psd? psd's are notoriously large files and saving without merging flattening layers doesn't help.

 

Am thinking that's probably no help as the programmers may need the individual elements/layers from the file...

You can try archiving the PSDs (rar, zip, etc). Some can have good compression rates.

 

P.S. Only used Fireworks once a long time ago so can't help there.

I've found PSD's between Photoshop and Fireworks still a bit temperamental and a Fireworks PNG won't open the same in Photoshop with all the layers, objects and effects.

 

You're better off sticking to PNG's with Fireworks and PSD's in Photoshop.

It's annoying as I work in fireworks and I thought by buying CS3, this would help with my workflow. I last had Studio8 and thought that by now the programmes would be better integrated.
