Device Width

Recommended Posts

I noticed that my reworked site didn't look right on my cell. I added a meta to correct this but it made it worse. What else can I do?

Here's the meta tag I added:

<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width">

What's the URL of the site?

The meta you have added is just a note to the browser to make the site the same width of the screen. It works with the media queries you have in your CSS.

It should also have the initial scale:

<meta name = "viewport" content = "width=device-width, initial-scale=1">

It looks wrong on your cell because it's not responsive.

You need to use media queries to change the structure of the site. If you want to know how to do this there are plenty of tutorials on how to do this.

There are loads of other things to consider as well. For example on this page: http://bearcountryjewel.vacations/vacation-guide you have a 600kb 900px wide image squeezed down to 250px wide. That image needs only be 250px wide and probably around 50kb in size. But on a cell you might want to display the image full width. This is an example of making a site responsive.
