Animated profile Picture on Facebook

Featured Replies

Hi,

I was wondering if someone could be so kind as to explain to me a way to put an animated profile picture on my facebook account. I created a gif pic and saved it as a gif. It works perfectly if I open it with any browser but uploaded on my facebook does not show any animation.

Thanks in advance

regards

Perhaps practicing some patience would be helpful.

It's my understanding that this is a feature built into Facebook's functionality on android and ios exclusively. Facebook refer to it as a "video" although it probably is still a .gif file. As such uploading a .gif manually probably won't work - I am guessing to avoid file-size restrictions etc applied.

Basically navigate to your profile on an android/ios app and change your profile picture as normal, however select the option "Take a new profile video" or "Select profile video" as appropriate. You will be prompted to create/select a video file, rather than a .gif.

Thank you!

I am perfectly aware of all this stuff concerning an app etc. I do not want any app on my smartphone I simply want to do it directly on facebook web.

I know it should work somehow. There are some videso posted on youtube which explain how to do it but they are not well explained.

It is about changing the script of the photo or uploading it on an extra website and then link it to facebook. Don't know how else I would not ask here.

Besides, I do not need a video but an animated gif.

Regards

You can quite easily copy the URL of .gif image hosted on another website and post this to Facebook, it will retain its animation. However the profile picture cannot be set from a URL, it must either be uploaded directly or chosen from an existing uploaded photo.

Doing it via Facebook's built-in feature is the only way to do this currently.
