January 18, 20179 yr Hi AllSincerely hope I've posted in this in the right sectionCould someone have a look at the image below, it's a snippet I took from the BBC website. It's a live commentary of a football game that someone posts. I have my own amateur football club website and I'd like to the same thing but have no idea how it's done. Is it some sort of chatbox, javascript? will it be easy enough for a developer to implement on my site
January 21, 20179 yr Writing a "traditional" chat application for example in php is a bit of a headache as you need to be constantly poking the server for updates. As far as I am aware, the best way to achieve this currently would be to make use of sockets. Essentially you can implement a "bi-directional communication channel between a client and a server" and with that push messages out to a webpage in real-time. Take a look at this tutorial on node.js and socket.io. It covers, from a beginner level, the creation of a chat application which could be pretty easily adapted to do what you described above: http://socket.io/get-started/chat/ Edited January 21, 20179 yr by Fee
