Google Search Console (Google Webmasters Tool) is a Website reporting tool and it gives us a report how Google see our website and what are the errors occurred on our website.

The main aim to use this tool is we can make a request manually to Google to index your website or web pages.

The problem with GWT is, it shows the 4 or 5 days back report and do not show the exact report all the time.

I use Google and Bing Webmaster Tools each time I add a new page to my site.
It's a no brainer if you want to tell the 2 largest search engines about your latest content.

As others have said in this thread, you then resubmit the sitemap so that Google and Bing can find (and hopefully) index the new page.

The Webmaster Tools help with other things too, related to Google Analytics or similar services.

You do know that a sitemap can actually hurt your ranking. Google says it won't but test have shown that it does have an effect.

The key is the priority column. The default it 0.5 but this means every page is given the same weight by Google. Setting the priority means you can highlight the more important pages. For example, you can se the 'about us' page to 0.1 and the money page to 0.9.

But in reality, Google will only look at your sitemap during indexing. And if the site is properly structured you don't need a sitemap - Google even tells you this in the sitemap guidelines.

Surely no sitemap would set all pages to 0.5 in the eyes of Google, which would be the same as excluding the priority column? I just couldn't imagine life without GSC; how would you notice problems?

Google looks at your internal linking to determine importance. It can work out which pages are central to the site by how you link to that page. At one time Moz pushed the idea of link sculpting but this has now been dropped. Google looks at the whole site rather than each page in isolation used this to build a picture.

A sitemap just tells google that a page exist. The priority columns tells google which pages are important. If google chooses the sitemap (with default priorities) over your internal linking then all your careful planning goes out the window.

As to GSC, I haven't used it for years and don't have any problems with indexing or ranking. The error you have above isn't even an error. If you didn't have a sitemap google wouldn't even know about that noindex page.

No mate, Google has discovered a noindex page, it's not in the sitemap, their crawler found it, same as if you didn't have one. The screen shot was just an example of the sorts of things that can get picked up, would be handy to know the pages you wanted to get indexed might have a noindex by mistake at code level, if its no index and not in the sitemap that would be fine etc.

This isn't about "index and ranking" per say, it's about site wide health. I'm not sure how big a site you've worked with, my largest is a 200k + page monster, GSC has spotted code mistakes left from development which were causing problems with noindexing and canonicals, without this it could have easily gone unnoticed for months. SEO is optimisation, all aspects IMO.

In simpler terms, it is basically used to see what Google thinks about your site. It shows all the necessary information related to on-page and off-page optimization like crawl errors or any kind of penalty like Penguin or Panda your site got due to over optimization.

You can also see search analytics including the keywords driving traffic to your site, their ranking, and impressions so that you can determine where you need to focus more on your site.

You can also use it to force crawl your site for possible faster indexing in case you want SERPs to give your content its ranking as soon as possible.
