July 6, 201511 yr Yesterday, I performed, for the first time, a thorough disc cleanup and defragmentation of my hard drive. Later in the day, I found out that my Windows 8 apps, the ones that appear on the home screen, do not work. All my other programmes, the ones I have installed still work, and everything else in the system seems to be fine. I went to PC World, the shop where I bought my laptop from, and the guy there said that they would have to make a "reset" that would cost me £50 in order to fix the problem. I didn't inquire further into what "reset" means, but I suppose they would format my hard drive? I am on Windows 8.1, Intel 2.40GHz, 8GB RAM, 64bit system, 1TB HD. I have applied for a Windows 10 download (which will be free), so perhaps the Windows apps (if they are similar) will automatically be fixed when I install Windows 10? I am attaching screenshots of the problem. Is there any way I can download the apps, or reinstall them? Any other suggestions? Thanks very much!
