I am putting together a quick forum site as a favour for a local sports charity group. I was looking through helpful tutorial sites and was thinking about just taking script from there and altering it to suit.

 

Does anyone know a decent tutorial to provide this or can I take a forum tutorial script and a private messaging tuorial script from somewhere else and use them together on the site?

If you are looking for a simple forum script, for free, I wouldn't bother with capturing a script and changing it to suite. There are some really good forum applications out there which are totally free, so why not use one of those. these things are there ready for you to upload to your server and its not that hard to follow the setup process, which should just come with the download in a readme file, allot easier then actually messing with the nuts and bolts of a script from some tutorial.

 

Put a search in google for free or open source form/bulletin programs and you find something the suits you.

 

I use vbulletin - which is not free but very powerful - but they have a forum on their website (Not suprisingly), and many threads talk about these free forum apps, many of which are recommended by vbulletin users.

 

There are free, ready made-forums out there which will save your allot of time, and get the favour turned round sharpish!!

Thanks for the advice, I had thought about that initially but most of the free forums around have there name or adverts included in the forum software and as a charity they can not include any form of advertising at all. I think I've got a couple of tutorials that I can alter to work together.
