Advice Please

Hi all I will start by saying I'm new to all this and don't know too much so some advice would be great.

My site is about finding the best gaming and sharing them on.

Here is my site http://www.snatchadeal.co.uk and as my site gets bigger with content and I need to change stuff I think its going to be nightmare to control it. So I'm looking for easier way to post adds to my site without having to pay fortune for adds scripted.

Any advice would be great.

You might want to think about using a CMS. You might also want to consider something like WordPress if you want an open source choice to manage your posts. There are plenty of free CMS' out there, but if you're new to this, you might find you'll have more support available as it's incredibly popular. You could consider building a theme from scratch, using a starter theme - there are some excellent ones available ;) or you could pay for a theme. It depends if you're more into the designing of a website, or running a website. If it's the latter, it might be worth getting an already existing theme if you go that option.

Loving the hit counter ;) You might want to make your footer a little more readable however.

Thanks for reply mate I will look into that.

I'm having another problem as well to do with my main menu links they will just stop working and I will get 404 error any idea why?

I've only had a brief look but I wasn't getting and 404's. From what I can see, you don't have any content for the links. The layout elements show up fine but the articles within #content are blank for certain pages.

are you looking to do a similar site to hotukdeals ? it looks like a very early version of that site when first came about in 2005-07

have a look at hotukdeals... might give you some inspiration for your site!

Hey there, I will also second having CMS as a solution for your website. You have several open source CMSs available in the market, but as a Web Consultant I would advise you to go for a custom made CMS, as it’s more flexible, scalable and faster than open source ones. Custom CMS offers you the liberty of future enhancements too, which is not the case with open source CMS.

Thanks for reply could you recommend and CMS or even any advice on making my own.

I will agree with what previous commentators have mentioned. Using a CMS will give you access to each and every article or module on your website separately. As said, this makes easier for you to add or edit a particular block on your website layout. But be sure what CMS would suit your website better.

Said that your website is a gaming and sharing one, I am sure you would have a payment gateway or modes of payment integrated with your website. In this case I would recommend Drupal, which is an excellent opensource CMS. If you think your website is completely an e-commerce portal, then you must opt for Magento.
