how would i go about setting up a system so that only people logged in can comment on things in the blog? any help would be fantastic if you could just point me in the right directions

A custom blog or using something along the line of WordPress?

well i have designed and coded everything through dreamweaver so i was just going to do my own site but if there was any way to get the design onto wordpress i guess i could just have it on there and try their blog set up

Same person? Well, if it's WordPress, you can go to your Settings>Discussion and check the relevant boxes for a quick fix.
