Moan, Grumble, Whinge...

I feel that Teodora ... still working on a 2 week project 5 months later! This is why I will not take on another project without 'seeing' their content first, if I do please feel free to shoot me!

Yes BB, aren't always the ones that push for a quick turnover to start with, always always late with the content and always changing it?

:)

5 months! wow

No time to work on my project because I spent to much time on this forum (A) :p

That brings me to my other gripe: Articles about increasing productivity

I feel compelled to read them and then don't have enough time in the day. I also spend loads of time installing apps that are supposed to increase productivity but then I have to learn how to use them and my day is half gone.

Admittedly all this is my own fault.

Whatever do you mean, Sir? This forum doesn't take up much time :D

Know what you mean though ;)

Where has the sun gone!?

Seems it's gone to a warmer place :( Come back - all if forgiven - there's still time for summer ;)

I completely forgot Twitter were discontinuing V1 of their API. Looks like I'll be running through a bunch of sites today updating them. Great.

I feel inclined to moan about iOS7 UI again. In case I haven't moaned enough, I hate it. In fear of sounding like a designosaur (heard it on a podcast the other day - so can't take credit for that one ;)) I liked it when things were designed for the relative long haul as they 'worked' and looked good - not this change it every quarter nonsense.

I'm making myself a cheese toastie to combat this 'stress'.

I'd just like to grumble about new clients ... I'm tired of them, they just suck the very joy out of living - no comprehention of time or value. I prefer existing clients as they have a lot more understanding, with new clients its like regression ... A is for Apple ;)

I know... The thrill of a brand new project and then the disappointment when they manage to destroy the design completely...

Urgh. Don't mention twitter.

I stupidly didn't realise about them shutting down V.1

I've now got a stack of sites to work on the over the weekend with updating the Twitter feed!

One of our sites pulls out the amount of followers a user has. This used to be a simple XML feed, now we need to authenticate.

I've been staring at "Bad Authentication data" errors for the past 4 hours.

So the company I work for uses dedicated Windows servers. They are so crap, I've been trying to install Wordpress on it for 4 hours, we have PHP on there so I don't know why it's not liking it.

Microsoft shouldn't be allowed anywhere near the internet.

EDIT:

I'm now submitting a bloody support ticket just to install WP, I've never seen anything like it.

I also enjoyed the patronizing advice from my boss, which included "have you put the files on the server". Exactly what you want to hear when you're in a bad mood.

Monday Moaning: responsive images. What a barrel of fun these are to configure and make semantic. Semantic as in 'add loads of hacks and bloat'.

Wow, I've wasted a whole day trying to get equal height columns work on a fluid layout. jQuery methods didn't really work because the layout relies on the height of an image slideshow, if the images hadn't loaded yet (or they had but were stacked on top of each other), the page then it would return the wrong value.

#site-wrapper {
    overflow:hidden;
}

#sidebar {
    width: 23.80952380952381%;
    margin-bottom: -2000px;
    padding-bottom: 2000px;
}

#main-content {
    width: 76.19047619047619%;
    margin-bottom: -2000px;
    padding-bottom: 2000px;
}

Done.

I'm not sure if anyone else gets their parcels delivered to work, but would you consider it rude to be asked what's inside?

Every time I order something off Amazon I get asked what it is, it's so annoying.

Depends on the person asking and the relationship with them. I take a lot of post for a neighbour and the postman either says "Bet it's another one of those meerkats" or asks me what I thinks inside. Each time I tell him something new; perhaps something that vibrates, a bomb, biscuits. Fortunately we can have banter but if it's someone I didn't know, I'd tell them to go forth and multiply. Either that, or make light of it. As you're getting post sent to work, maybe they think it's ok to ask as it's not "personal" - regardless of the nature of privacy and confidentiality.

My moan for the day is other peoples code. I experimented with an accordion (not the instrument) last week to use on a project, coupled with some snazzy menus I've sourced on t'internet. They work perfectly fine but used on the same page doesn't function. Going through the hoops; correct file paths, closed brackets... feel like I'm doing a by-the-book check. Grrrr....

** Sorted my moan: it was a Modernizer issue! Yahoo - back to work **

They said they loved it last week. A week later they came with 4-5 pages long document of changes. Mainly "Remove white space" and "More wow factor" and similar....

I am now reading it and looking for a tall building to jump from :D

The white space thing kills me.

"Can we loose all the white space so the user doesn't have to scroll? Nobody scrolls on websites".

OR

"Generic above the fold comment. I've worked in marketing for 3 years, so I obviously know more than you about websites".

Yes, the fold... You explain about user behaviour, etc, etc, but no - we still want everything above "the fold".

I must admit comments like "More wow factor" are my favourites :D

Pathetic. Are they sure they're looking at the right thing? 4-5 pages of changes is insane. In situations like these I really wish we could tell them to go forth an multiply.

I am considering this option atm :D I don't deal directly with the client on this one though.

Just reading the whole thing and I feel I need a drink - surely this job will turn me into an alcoholic :D :D

Hahaha my grumble at the mo is a client who still has 10 pages of content i'm still waiting for telling me tiny edits of the few finished pages, it's like choosing a lampshade whilst the walls need plastering ... they should just give me the rest of the content and worry about corrections in one hit list!

Irish coffee?

I wish :D :D But no, if it was an Irish coffee, I would have added a cat gif to the design, one cat for every comment :D :D

Oh, yes, fixing typos is important, especially when you know the content will be replaced :D

I thought it was our job to be faffing about with subtle corrections - not the client telling us before they've even submitted everything. That's really counterproductive, but I bet they don't see it that way - they want it "perfect". A friend of mine did the same thing - fed me bits of the content each time wanting to make sure it was perfect, then would add something new which would through everything out! I was doing it as a favour, but in the end charged him for it as it was taking up a ludicrous amount of time and stupid decision making (that's my job! ;))

So a bunch of spammers have decided to email our clients to see if they need SEO and web services. Basically, I've spent this morning replying to clients that are concerned over an automated email. Who exactly do I invoice for this time wasting?

I found your site using Google search and after having a look over your website I think you should implement HTML5 designing and Responsive Design to make your site more accessible in mobile phone, tablets, desktop etc.

The funny thing is I've already mentioned this to clients, however they appear to only be concerned about it now that a spammer has got in touch.

HTML5 designing? What?!

There are many additional improvements that could be made to your website, and if you would like to learn about them, and are curious to know what our working together would involve, then I would be glad to provide you with a detailed analysis in the form of a WEBSITE AUDIT REPORT for FREE.

This should be illegal.
