A-Level extended project advice

Featured Replies

Hey,

In my school all student who don't study theology have to do an extended project where you can either do a campaign + 1000 word essay or just a 5000 word essay.

My idea, as long I can get the go ahead from my teachers, was to create a functioning website. I've dabbled with web design previously but thats only basic html but i'm fully aware of how to get a domain and how to host it.

I want the website to be similar to formspring/ask fm but where people can submit opinions/ set subjects (in a status form) as well as ask questions obviously. I chose this particular type of site because the examples I used seemed quite 'lite' if you understand what I mean, as in not built up and complex.

I identify the key forms of the website as

Registering accounts/logging

Submitting data/ storing data

Making the website visually pleasing

Structuring the website

The website doesn't even have to operational at the end of the process, I just need to research and show sources, plan everything and present it in an essay form.

What I need to know is from you guys is

Is it do able by April 2013

What do I need to learn for each particular form? Would I need to learn an entire programming language or just for the parts I require?

What sources could I use for what I need to learn? E.g 'whatever' for dummies book series

Programs I'd need seeing as im on mac

Its a project I'd probably like to continue running after, thats if it is possible.

Thanks

No, I want to if I can realistically create a website in 5 months with near enough no knowledge and whether I need to learn an entire language or not... If its not then Ill scrap the website idea completely.

Well the idea is doable, but you'd have to learn quite a lot which if you do quickly may become overwhelming.

I wouldn't say its not possible but its gonna be hard.
