New Web Page

Featured Replies

I've recently update my web page: http://marcelc.com

The objective of this site is to showcase my portfolio and also as a web design and development blog where I can share my knowledge with others who share the same passion.

This website is build upon a CMS that I made myself.

So please check the blog page (soon portfolio page) and give some feedback :)

This site is not done yet so feedbacks are really welcome :)

The site is clean and simple which I really like - just the way a Portfolio website should be.

Not a coding expert but design I have a few suggestions:

1. Black text is a bit hard on the eyes.

2. Menu jumps to the top RHS when on the contact page.

3. Dont like the coloured boders around the portfolio images. Also spac them out more i.e more white space between the images.

4. The next and previous buttons dont work - I'm sure you have added these for future updates though but it might be worth hiding them for now

5. Website seems slow to load but maybe thats just me

Can you explain the dog logo. I do love the 'Marcel Christianis' logo tho - really cool

1. Ill try experiment with other colors :)

2. What do you mean by RHS?

3. Coloured borders might be because i haven't disable img border-style. (in chrome, the borders are gone). For the spaces, i'm thinking of using masonry JS.

4. I will work on that.

5. Maybe it's my host. They're having some problem lately.

The dog logo is just some random logo to fill the space until i came up with a better logo. Basically i like dogs, thats all haha.

Tx a lot for the input :)

2. What do you mean by RHS?

RHS = Right Hand Side. The logo seems to be also missing from the contact page also.

Try to keep the navigation as simple as possible on portfolio websites. You want people to look at your work, not to search for the page!

The other items I mentioned are minor and I know easy to fix but I like the simplicity of the site which is what is required on a portfolio site. Keep me posted on updates

@redned99: ah true. will start working on it soon. Tx for the input man :) I'll update you if there's something new. And maybe i want you to take a look at my cms later.

A nice clean and simple design in my opinion. A little basic looking but minimalism is always good. I would be interested to see what else you are going to do to it, also your custom CMS is also interesting, maybe you should also make a site for this? wordpress etc is good but alternatives are always nice.

@steveking: yea, going to play with the look a bit. As for the cms, it's something I made because wordpress is too complicated for me (to create a sidebar, I need to create a function for it and to use plugins I need to search for wordpress plugin first and install it through the admin control panel and etc). So I made a cms that focus on developer during the creation process but focus on user during site management. I'll probably create a post or site about it soon :)

I look forward to seeing it as I am not a fan of word press (want to move my blog away from there) I shall be waiting to see your site also as it is very nice and clean sedign and am interested in how you get on.
