Can't log in to FTP to update my website

Featured Replies

Hello. I want to update my website but I’ve just tried logging on with these details, using FireFTP and Filezilla, and I get this error message:

530 Login incorrect.

500 OOPS: vsftpd: refusing to run with writable root inside chroot()

500 OOPS: child died

Is this a problem my end (and if so is there an idiot’s guide to fixing it anywhere please?) or is it a server issue? I've Googled and not found anything I can understand unfortunately. Any help much appreciated. Thanks. Beth.

You're using the wrong username/password combination by the looks of it. Get in touch with your host and check the details with them. Or log in to your cpanel (if you have one) - you'll be able to reset the ftp password from there.

Thanks notbanksy. Unfortunately I don’t have cPanel so can’t change my passoword, so have emailed my host and hopefully he’ll shed some light onto the matter soon.
