March 8, 201214 yr Just wondered if anyone would be happy to provide feedback on this homepage design I have put together for a Cookery School? Feedback on colours, use of texture and spacing would be appreciated Andrea Edited to add: Design doesn't come as naturally to me as other aspects of what I do - the design has taken around 30 hours alone (and that's without the research, analysis of their existing site etc which I spent a week on). I guess I just want to know that I'm going in the right direction if that makes sense?! Edited March 8, 201214 yr by Giraffic
March 8, 201214 yr overall i think its been put together really nicely. The subtle noise in the background is nice, and all the colors compliment each other. The only thing that i would look at is the color of the hen in the logo. maybe make it a little less bright. (maybe its my monitor)
March 8, 201214 yr Author Thanks for your feedback The hen in the logo is their brand colour and is one they wanted to keep - I am meeting them tomorrow so can have a play around with the saturation and brightness and see how they feel. Thanks again
March 15, 201214 yr I really like the design and it looks like it came quite naturally. The only suggestion I would offer is to include some of those bright colours in the navigation bar or use neutral tones with no bright colours. It looks like there are two different palettes being used. Good job!
March 16, 201214 yr I think it's good. Something not sitting right with me for it though. Something not "cooking" enough about it. Perhaps it's the slightly cold colour of the background? Also, the font you use for the headline suggests to me more children's cookery than adult cookery. Perhaps it has to do with like Mantis said trying to inject slightly more colour through it. Or perhaps more defined way orf seperating the sections. I feel like you are nearly there, just missign one or two elements. A couple of other points: 1 : Lots of giraffes on this thread. 2 : "Feed" back on the "Cooking" design - geddit? Ok time to get the old coat.
March 26, 201214 yr Author Wow, thanks so much for all the feedback, haven't been on in a little while My client didn't really like the first draft so it has been redesigned now (and approved - YaY) Do you usually sketch before coding the template? I design in Fireworks before coding, I can't sketch (as in paper and pen) to save my life though The only suggestion I would offer is to include some of those bright colours in the navigation bar or use neutral tones with no bright colours. It looks like there are two different palettes being used. I can see what you mean, navigation is still neutral in the redesign - do you think I need to work on the colours for the new version? Thanks for your suggestion Something not sitting right with me for it though. Something not "cooking" enough about it. Perhaps it's the slightly cold colour of the background? Also, the font you use for the headline suggests to me more children's cookery than adult cookery. I completely agree The new background is warmer (I hope!) and with the cooking illustrations I've hopfully fixed this now? The reason for the child like font for headlines is that they focus on children's cookery courses and nursery school catering, also the theme is 'fun yet educational' - does that make sense? 1 : Lots of giraffes on this thread.2 : "Feed" back on the "Cooking" design - geddit? I love giraffes Version 2 attached
