March 5, 201214 yr Hey guys I'm a beginner in layout design for website and I don't know much C.S.S. so I'm using tables for now I design the layout using Photoshop CS4 and I use Slices for generating tables . here's a page that I designed : http://maxer.ir/main2.html The problem is when I type text in one of the left or right columns (and it stretches) the other column(s) on the other side stretches with it ( they're height is relative to each other) but I don't want that how can I make each column's size separate and not relative to others ? sorry for my bad English ...
March 5, 201214 yr Tables will always make cells the same height in any row. If you want to control the column width, add width="345" or whatever width you want into the top td cells in each column. <tr> <td width="345">......</td> <td width="123">......</td> </tr> Lower cells in the same column should be the same width, unless any cell has something wider like an image when it will expand teh width. I'v egiven you the old coding method for tables above. Learn CSS as soon as you can.

Hi BZ7, don't be too daunted with the thought of learning and using CSS because it will make your life a lot easier. It took me a while to get my head round the process then I had that eureka moment. Visualise CSS as boxes within boxes. Simply put, you create a single CSS page which contains all the formatting information such as background colours, spacing, font information, etc. Your actual web page/s references this information and display everything from this single source. So if for example you don't like the white text on black background you adjust the colours in the CSS page and all the web pages on that site change straightaway. Do this in tables and you have to open up every page and make the necessary changes which is a right chore! The major issue with slicing up an image in Photoshop for web is the quantity of code generated and the difficulty in changing anything post slice.
