I'm currently studying COMPTIA A+ hoping to have it in next few months (been hard going with work recently). I know it's only an entry level course, but we have to start somewhere right.

 

I was thinking of doing Network + qualification? I'd love to get into web design, but I'm trying to self-learn at the minute but there are so many people better than me. I was thinking perhaps the hardware side of PCs might be a better bet. I'm just bored of my job and sick of contact upheaval we'd had 4 managers in past year; I really don't want to spend the next 20 years doing it.

 

Any advice or tips on where to go next?

Computer hardware is going to be much, much harder!

 

How long have you been trying with web design? If we're only talking a few months then stick at it. You'd need to be far more tenacious learning about hardware and networking than web design - so if you're giving up on web design now then it doesn't suggest you'd fare better with hardware.

 

It took me a long, long time to get anything close to decent at web design and I'm still seriously lacking in some areas, and there are a lot of people better than me.

 

People that are better than you though should serve as inspiration and help you be better do. Don't be afraid to imitate, so long as you're not blatantly copy and pasting. Seen a nice web design? See if you can make it too.

 

The only person that knows where this will go is you. Nobody else can tell you what to do. But whatever you choose, stick at it, through thick and thin, and be prepared for it to take you months, if not years, to get decent enough you're pulling in a good salary.

 

Most areas of IT are highly competitive and difficult, this isn't going to change just by moving from one to another.

I don't plan to give up on web design I'd like to keep learning, it's just there seems a lot of people doing it and not too much work. I know I have to work at it, you'll never stop learning with IT in general as new things come along.
