I'm not too sure what the best way is to explain this so I'll post images below. Quite obvious what's wrong but not got a clue how to fix it! If you need code please let me know which bits exactly so I don't spam you all

Hmm. Try putting the floating div *before* the anchor in the header...

I would imagine the fact that your DTD, head and the start of a page body are appearing twice will not help where IE is concerned.

 

FF, Chrome et al will compensate for it but IE will just throw a hissy fit. Which I suppose it is entitled to do in the circumstances.
