Is there anyway to have the "index of/" page of a specific folder have a certain look?

Usualy you want to hide the index of page but if I wanted people to see it so that they can easily download files form that folder and files can be easily added and took away from the folder can the index of page be edited to have different colours and maybe a title or anything? Obviously I could make a page with links and update it every now and again but it was for someone else so they could update easily without touching any code.

Why don't you just make an HTML page called index.html which lists all the files in your folder and links to them? That way you can style/ present it in any way you please. Also, anyone who visits http://www.yourdomain/yourfolder/ will automatically be shown your index.html page instead of the apache/ server directory for that folder.

Make sense? I hope I explained it well enough :)

Yeah it does make sense, but the idea is if I'm making the site for someone else who doesn't know about editing pages if they want to add/delete more files from the folder. I was wondering if there was any way to have a customisable "index of" type page so that it looks nicer than the default one and updates the list like the regular one and all I need to do is tell him to add/delete any the files he wants, just leave the index file or whatever it would be called.

Is there any html code that could turn a page into a customized index of page?

This is not possible with HTML and CSS. I think with the help of Server Scripting this may be possible or maynot .

But I dont have so much idea on Server Scripting, but will search if i get any good code will obviously post here.

If you are able to use php, you could create your custom index page, style it how you want and then use the glob() function in PHP to show the contents of the directory. (see: http://uk3.php.net/glob )

I don't really know php that's why I'd prefer html. I'll check out your link later when I'm not so tired. It does seem pretty long though. Is there anywhere on that page I should look out for specificaly for what I'm looking for?

I'm basicaly going to make a website for someone soon and I know they want to be able to add updates to it, but I'm not sure what or how yet and I thought of a few ways I could allow them to do this easily with the limited knowledge they (and to an extent I) have. Then I thougt of this if they needed to add a number of things to it and basicaly just wondered if and how it could be done. I have a fair knowledge of html but I know that I need to start learning some other types as html isn't that good for more advanced pages. Was just wondering if anyone had any good ways of quickly implementing this in any code really. Thanks for all your responses so far though.
