Help! Save Web Button Created In Photoshop Without The Background

Featured Replies

I feel like a total dunce in asking this but I am having real problems saving a button I have just created in photoshop. (Dont laugh!) I JUST WANT THE BUTTON and not the background so I can place it in a column on my webpage. Everthing I have tried saves the 400x400 background with the button. Do I have to use a select tool cos my hand aint that steady!? I have a screenshot of the button and background in photoshop below. All of the web button creation tutorials show you how to create the button but not how to save JUST the button as a gif, jpeg etc. If anyone could help me on this it would be greatly appreciated. It cant be that hard can it, or am I just being really stupid?

Try setting the background to transparent and then trim that transparent background off.

You can do this using the 'modify canvas' option i think.

Then save it as either a GIF with 'matte' as transparent, or as a PNG.

Hope that helps.

You have the "Shape 1" layer which provides all the shaping, highlights, and so on, whilst the Background makes it appear solid.

If you create a middle layer which is the same shape as the button and fill it with black, then remove the background layer, save as png (with alpha transparency), and your done.

I use Mike's method - cropping. Save it as a .jpg or .png and you're done (save the original too if you want to preserve the layers).
