I am looking for feedback on a simple file sharing site:

Otherwise a nice 'feel' and typography but a pig of a site to run as you have to police the content 24/7 and remove any material that breaches the Nixhost.co.uk acceptable use policy before they or somebody else finds it and reports you.

That's annoying. I specifically disabled popups and interstitial pages, and I put the site as under 18 and they still have advertisements such as "Find naughty singles in you area!". With the hosting company, the content they do not allow is almost identical to the files we do not allow in our Terms of Service. So the way it will work is, if we receive an abuse report, we will remove the file. If the host receives an abuse report, it will be forwarded on to us, if the file is not removed, they will suspend our server.

It felt a bit like the main google page. Minimalistic - nothing fancy, just the bits you need.

The only comment I would make is to use another color scheme. The top menu is quite hard to see on the similarly dark background. Otherwise, very good job.

 

P.S. Perhaps you can add a categorization feature to make it easier to fit an uploaded file somewhere and to retrieve particular file types. Also, how are you doing space-wise? Is there a time limit for the files?

Thanks for the feedback, I was hoping to create it as minimalistic and simple as I could. What kind of color scheme would you suggest? I could lighten the colors on the navigation bar. You can use a wildcard on the search feature: % - to filter results, for example: %.mp3 - You can also filter results by New, Hot and Top. There is no time limit for files, the only limit in place is a 100 megabyte upload size.

I couldn't find the wild card or the file size limit or the "New, Hot, Top" mentioned in the terms section and there isn't a help page. I think it is important to properly explain all available features to users somewhere.

 

About the color: I personally like shades of blue, but anything lighter than the current background will do. It's about contrast.

I don't like it. Whats the site about? Who are you sharing with? What are the file restrictions?

Theres minilimist and then there is just plain confusing. Needs direction.

I will be adding a help section with its own help link in the navigation. The help section would probably contain either a video on using the site or an FAQ or both. Possibly a contact form.
