First Template

Featured Replies

I have been designing and coding for a while, but this is my first complete template. I would really appreciate some feedback. The footer isn't complete as I lost inspiration.

ok, here we go.

Base: The background grid is very distracting. Lower the opacity or find something else.

Header: The Icons for the main menu is basically "mystery meat" navigation. A user should be able to tell what it is no matter one. Don't force the user to try and figure it out. Im never a fan of using icons for languages. If you want this to be a template, then it gets murky when you try to add different languages like Spanish, but doesn't exactly have one country assigned to it. I would use abbreviations.

Banners: Why are there two banner areas? Let the user get to the content. Also, that picture of the girl is really scary.

Content: These buttons are too big and don't give the user anything. This should probably be in the main menu if it's such an important part of the webpage.

Footer: This section needs to be redone, The layout is not good and the text is waaaay too small. Why is everything smooshed to the side.

I forgot to say this, the second "banner area" as you call it is actually a slideshow.

Here is version 2 http://i.imgur.com/pLyQQ.jpg

The picture of tht girl looks like something out of the hills have eyes, it looks like she's just about to eat someones face.

The menu is very poor. What do those icons mean?

Why is the search in the footer? Search usually lives in the top right. People expect things to be in certain places, change befuddles people.

Hi Tindris,

  •
  • Basically your template looks quite pack which is lack of white space you can improve this by designing your layout base on a grid such as http://960.gs/ and learn about white space in web design

  •
  • For the navigation, I think using icon alone is not too friendly for the user side. Try using block text

  •
  • Main banner is quite dull and not showing Keep your Memories Forever - Try add a little color touch and use a bigger photo.

  •
  • The middle banner cause banner blindness - Try make the 3 middle banner smaller than top banner.

  •
  • Try add an Icon to those two Call to Action buttons below.

That's all for now :)
