How to create .shtml file

Hello All,

 

This is my first post on this forum. I am experienced in Mainframe technology and new to Website design.

 

I would like to know how to use .shtml file in HTML pages (Apache Tomcat 6) so as to include files like header, footer.

 

I have gone thru some websites and tried changing Tomcat's Web.xml file to remove comment symbol to enable SSI servlets. Please find below my index.shtml file.

 

index.shtml:

 

<body>

 

<!--#include file="Header.html" -->

 

<h1> Inside Home.shtml file !!!! </h1>

 

<!--#include file="Footer.html" -->

 

</body>

 

 

But contents of included files "Header.html & Footer.html" are not getting displayed. However this shtml file content (<h1> ) is getting displayed.

 

Please let me know how can I get the contents of the included files using shtml.
