Hi Everyone,

 

Basically, here is a little background on me. I am from Scotland, just left school and I am looking to get into a Software/web Development apprentice position or something similar. At the moment I am finding it very difficult to see any open positions or anything without a few years of commercial experience.

 

So my question is, does anyone know of any open positions or companies in Scotland (West of Scotland Mainly) that are currently recruiting apprentices or trainee's with no commercial experience but have knowledge of HTML,CSS,PHP,MYSQL,Javascript?

 

I am currently enlisted with QA's apprenticeship programme but at the moment they cannot find me a company to give me practical experience so it's kind of it a dead end.

 

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'll put the feelers out for u but I dont know many people based in the west.

I've seen a few companies advertise on Gumtree, but I heard a few horror stories about companies who basically use interns as their main staff. A mate just quit his internship from a company called Lodging Circuit, he was supposed to be an intern learning about web design and development after a few weeks realised he was the only web guy and was doing EVERYTHING and working for nothing.

 

Accendo Design Ltd is another to watch out for, they advertise for internships for all kinds of positions, their entire staff is made up of interns other than the guy who runs the company. Staff coming and going all over the place who all eventually realise they're being used as free labour.

 

I'd be happy to take you on but I'm based in remote village in the south of the Scottish Borders.

 

Maybe approach a small business, charity or voluntary group and offer your services. You'll soon learn the ropes.

Those are some horror stories. Scottish Borders are a bit far away from me but the offer is greatly appreciated as well as your help on this matter. I got a list of companies from ScotlandIS and have sent my CV and a covering letter to most on the list which are from the Glasgow area but no luck so far. I will give Gumtree a shot today to see if I can find anything.

 

Does anyone know much about the QA apprenticeship, or anyone who has been on it could tell me what it's like?
