Hi all

 

I have built my wordpress site in a subfolder whilst I work on it so I could keep the old site active. Now I would like to move all my subfolder contents to the root folder. How do I do this? Do I have to download all the files one by one and then re-upload one by one to my root folder? Is there any other way?

If you have SSH or a file browser (like cpanel/plesk) you will be able to use those, otherwise you'll have to do as you say and download then upload

Would I be able to make my sub folder the main folder or redirect automatically to it using the main domain name?

Redirection would be fine to the subfolder from the main domain, as long as you have a server capable such as Apache. Unless you have access to edit the document roots of your server config, you wont be able to get it to work off the subfolder as a main folder, unless your control panel explicitly allows it (which is unlikely)

My server lets me do a "masked re-direction" , is this what I'm looking for?

You could, but it's definitely not recommended

Using frames is old school, and not really very good for SEO and getting your site found. Honestly, you'd be best moving your site to your main directory

If you contact your hosting they will probably move all the site files for you free of charge
