July 5, 201115 yr Hi folks, We are moving our company domain form 1 hosting package to another with the same company. We are doing this as the current hosting packae has a load of add-on domians so we want to have the company website hosted on its own. Will transfering the files over to the new hosting package have a negative effect on our Goole ranking? Thanks in advance. Garry
July 5, 201115 yr no not really.... just make sure your url's don't change at all (im thinking trailing forward slashes here).... if your website gets faster you will actually see a slight increase in rankings via google as website speed is now one of the many ranking factors they use
July 8, 201115 yr Dear, As per my experience there are no any negative effect on your Google Ranking when you move your domain from 1 to another hosting package. If you want to sure this please read one time Google Algo.
July 8, 201115 yr Are you staying on the same server, the same host country and keeping the same domain name and same IP address? What is it that's actually changing when you change the hosting package. Without knowing the intricate details, is not always advisable to give some one advice and even then you should take the advice with a pinch of salt (after all, replies on forums are often just opinion based) If you find there is a difference in location, then this change in package could very much damage your SEPR results .. The same hosting company can have servers in many different locations, for some companies its cheaper for them to host outside of the UK, this can have an impact! find out more about the upgrade, and ask the host their opinion. If you have it in writing that there "should" be no significant difference, and that none of the above points will be changed then you "should" be fine << I'm sure it will be fine, most host usually know what they're doing but you do run across the odd cowboy every now and then [PS an upgrade in package does not always go hand in hand with an upgrade in speed, it depends on the details of the package] Edited July 8, 201115 yr by Mike224

Some people say that website PR can be affected if the server of your new host is in a different country to that of your old host. But after some research I came to the conclusion that as long as your new host does not have any down time, especially when your site gets crawled by search engines such as Google. It should be ok. As long as you have a good and reliable web host your PR should remain intact. I would also suggest you ensure page names remain the same on your new server as they were on your old, just so that any back links to your site still work. But if all you’re doing is transferring your old site to a new sever. That would not apply. Over all, your PR should be fine...
July 8, 201115 yr PR? I don't think anyone thinks that PR is affected by geographic location (PR is just one factor that has an 'impact' and SERPs and its related to links!!... and its also one of over 200 factors in googles search algorithm... I think I'm going to be saying this a lot) like I say, forums (although fun and sometime a useful source of help) provide a place for opinions which aren't always accurate, but reflections of people own experiences (there own experience is only a small sample of the big picture) If you watch Matt Cutts video related to server location you might be able to form your own opinion for "location having an affect on SERP results" www.creative-seo.co.uk/search-engine-optimisation-blog-uk/search_engine_optimisation/Matt-Cutts-Confirms-that-server-Geographic-location-affects-SEO.php -2 years old, but still relevant (and more up to date than some 'opinions') ... Its more than likely that your host wont even change the location though, but find out what is changing Changes DO HAVE AND IMPACT and not all of them are positive Edited July 8, 201115 yr by Mike224
