Domain transfer?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I am currently doing my first website using Komposer but am unsure about getting a host and domain name.

1. Ive heard if you buy your domain from one company some may charge you to transfer to another host, is this the case?

2. Would I be better getting host/domain from one company, or does it really matter?

3. Could anyone recommend a good host/domain site?

Cheers :)

i but my .coms, .nets from godaddy.com as cheap - especially if you hunt down a coupon code first in google. .co.uk i go with fasthosts.

I then point the domain name at whichever hosting plan i might need for the job. i tend to host with fasthosts or hostgator - i'm not aware of any transfer fees in either case.

I think GoDaddy is cheapest for .com/.net and 123-reg for .co.uk. Normally you have a control panel on the domain site where you hold all your domains and use the nameservers to point it at the host. I don't know for GoDaddy, but with 123-reg this is extremely simple to do, and they keep you informed of domains that are about to expire etc.

Thanks for replys, Will get my domain from godaddy.

Not really sure about what host stats would suit my website tho, there all different and its all gobildygook to me  . My site would be a small business site, say 5 pages, thats about it really, may buy a few more domains to point to this site when its up. Do all hosts allow more than one domain name?

Thanks :)

Not all hosts allow more than one "parked domain", you will have to check with your host :)
