December 12, 201015 yr Im loosing the enthuasiasm yet again to do webdesign/programming i have tons of skills and don't want to loose them, Each time i go to finish a project i loose the enthusiasm to do anything and find a reason not to do it? Im 20 now and hate it? Whats happening, I used to love programming and webdesign... I think the problem is that i have nobody else around me to lookupto or talk with about webdesign... this is bad.
December 12, 201015 yr I think its an age thing, and probably a bit of burnout as well. I guess going to social meetups might make it a bit more exciting but I dunno, I've never been to one. I used to get bored pretty bad, and even quit a few decent jobs because I was bored of them. The only thing I do differently now is take a break from my work, I usually go to the gym for 2 hours then go swimming every evening.
December 12, 201015 yr well if you need to speak to some people, there is always skype. I have skype, and im sure a lot of others on this forum have it... Ask around and im sure people will give you their skype username. If you want mine, its i-limit-i all lowercase
December 12, 201015 yr Author I think its an age thing, and probably a bit of burnout as well. I guess going to social meetups might make it a bit more exciting but I dunno, I've never been to one. Yh, The gym and swimming may be helping for you, I do take a break, but then i hesitate to come back and start again, I used to be realy exicited about this subject, I still am if somebody else around me is doing the same subject and is as enthusiastic as i am, Ive got tons of great ideas and dont want them to slip out the window. You could be right about the age thing, My Social life isnt the best either, I spend more time in my bedroom than out, because thats the way i am, Ive always loved computers and have always been on a huge learning curve but afraid that this all may be coming to and end. It would be nice to have a like a webdesigners club were we can go and discuss ideas and such. and for skype, schilderley im on skype alot, I definalty look forword to hearing your ideas and thoughts.
December 25, 201015 yr I think you should fing some web design buddy on such forums to keep you motivated and who is also working on the same stuff you are on. Best of luck!
December 27, 201015 yr I tend to find that mentoring someone helps, strange as it may seem it will surprise you what you know when presented with someone who knows very little but has a drive to learn and experiment. It somewhat puts you back in touch with your inner code monkey
December 28, 201015 yr Try to have a break and do something else for some time You will miss webdesign/programming and full of energy comme back to this work
December 28, 201015 yr I got like that once, i even started to question my own abilities and drive and almost lost my self confidence. Then i was asked to write a set of Photoshop tutorials for someone and he was very pleased with what i did - it just boosted my confidence back up again. I then started writing more and more and have now been a regular writer for the web designer magazine - and this keeps me motivated and passionate about what i do. It is such a nice feeling to see yourself published rather than seeing it on the web. So, why don't you try that? Perhaps but all your skills to good use and knock up a tutorial and submit it to nettuts or any other tutorial blog that pay. Doing so will help to raise your profile and you will start getting a reputation that will serve you well. The beauty of this industry is that anyone can become a web celeb and writing tutorials, books and anything else that raises your profile will help to keep that passion alive! I am not saying i am a celeb but i am working on writing my own book (hopefully published by sitepoint) and i feel quite excited to see it all in print with my name on the front. That's what keeps my passion alive! - Neil
