Struggling to find a fade in fade out javascript tool

Featured Replies

I'm currently in the process of building my second website, and would like to make a sub menu appear when the user scrolls down the screen. Currently I have managed to achieve this effect on the page, but not in the way I want to. I would like the menu to fade in from no where, no movement at all. Just stay there, no movement when the user scrolls, and fade out if the user goes all the way back to the top of the page.

Pictures paint a thousand words, so here is a link so you can see the menu appear when you move down the page. I've looked for some sort of script for a fade in effect, but I don't really know what to search for, I keep finding irrelevant things :(

Please help with some suggestions :)

P.S. I would like a script that has not been "minified" as I would like to understand and perhaps alter the code myself.
