I need some help. My friends, who are getting married, have asked me to build them a special wedding registry for their upcoming wedding. The uniqueness of this registry, however, is that it is merely a list of items that people "commit to giving money towards." Let me explain. My friends are working in Africa, and thus do not want to have to bring back a bunch of gifts, so they want to create a registry that has a list of items that they can buy in Africa themselves, but that their guests could "buy" for them by giving them the money for that specific gift.

 

Therefore, the kind of registry I am looking to build for them would look like this:

 

• It would have a written list of items, their description and their prices.

• Each item has an option to "commit" to paying for the item.

• Once an item has been "committed," that item would be un-selectable to other users (maybe the item goes to 50% opacity and "commit" option disappears).

• Optional: E-mail notification to the committer that reminds them of their commitment to give the wedding party the committed amount of money for said item.

 

Does anyone know what I could do to create such a registry? My friends have asked me to build it since I design websites, but I feel that this will require PHP, which I do not know.
