Hi all,

 

I was reccommended to this website by a friend and told its great for getting useful feedback.

 

If you could look at http://www.reevecreative.com and give me your feedback I would be very greatful.

 

I wanted to create something a bit different and not base it on a layout/design that others have used. I just want a simple presence for now as I am working on another website with my friend.

 

I really don't want this to look amateur and I feel like it might a bit at the moment.

 

My skills are stronger in programming than design so I am looking to improve upon this, any tips or resources would be greatly received.

 

I am particularly looking for input regarding the body background, at the moment it is just plain old grey.

 

I also used a font replacement service for the text, however I have noticed this isn't working properly in all browsers so just ignore the fonts for now - or reccommend a reliable service!

I can't emphasise enough how important it is to get the spelling right.

 

From my point of view as soon as I see a website designer site with spelling mistakes (and there's many out there!)

I switch off completely.

 

Check the following:-

Source a nice funky backdrop and set it's positioning as fixed in the CSS.

 

In the text about you bit - cut down on the number of terms highlighted in the yellow. Just emphasise the one or two most pertinent bits.

 

 

ps, having a list of all the latest buzz words - HTML5, CSS3 etc etc doesn't prove anything. It's much better to have working examples that people can see for themselves.

Thanks for the quick response. I will address the spelling issue as soon as I finish work, thanks for pointing that out.

 

As for the overall design of the page, what are your impressions? Does it look amateur? (ignoring spelling error for now!). Anything you would change?

In a sentence; it all looks a bit too WordArt and PowerPoint. The recent tweets text is not aligned properly in the box and as said above, spelling mistakes need to be sorted .

 

Apart from that, I think just changing the fonts to a nice sans-serif font, making everything not quite as big and bold could work nicely in improving the design. The concept is nice, the black and yellow scheme is nice, but needs a bit more work to look right.
