April 3, 201016 yr Hi folks, I'll be honest up front and say that I only came across this site because I'm looking for ways to get my new business site out there. But I'm also revitalising an interest in creating and designing web pages that I forgotten about. I've been building web pages for about 15 years, from the early days on a Unix machine using vi to create pages manually. I've always enjoyed it, but always been in the corporate environment working on intranets, DB driven web apps and latterly with pre-defined company templates (yawn!..). But recently I've decided to go into business with my own web design company for local small businesses and started to realise how much I like doing this stuff when you've got the freedom to decide start to finish what to do! Anyway despite the years of working on the web, I'm possibly not as experieced as that implies and probably out of touch with the latest technologies and approaches. But I think I do a reasonable job of keeping things simple, professional and to the point, so if anyone's inclined to take a look and comment that is most welcome, I'll be seeing what I can learn from here, but also if I know anything useful I'll certainly chip in. So shameless link to my (new) company web site is here if I'm allowed: http://trade-site.co.uk And I started up a blog literally yesterday http://trade-site.blogspot.com Hopefully I'll keep up daily thoughts there and it'll be of interest?... but maybe not, and you'll plainly see that page ranking is my current topic of interest. I never got involved in that really over the years, and need to learn a lot more in that space now for my future potential clients. I'll pop over to that topic on this forum soon!! Cheers everyone, Mike
April 3, 201016 yr Hi mike and welcome hope you enjoy, but your site is a little basic and plain, i understand the idea and what you offer and who your aiming for but it would still be nice to see a bit more.
April 4, 201016 yr Author Hi mike and welcome hope you enjoy, but your site is a little basic and plain, i understand the idea and what you offer and who your aiming for but it would still be nice to see a bit more. Thanks for taking the time to look, appreciate the feedback. I'm not totally happy with my site, I'm trying to strike a fine balance for sure. I've possibly got too many old school thoughts going through my head when I write pages and I've forgotten some basics for sure. My navigation strategy is one-dimensional at the moment and frankly pretty poor I think!! Not a good advert for yourself huh? I'll be doing some updating and asking some questions to see what the latest thinking is in other parts of this forum and reminding myself what I should be doing as I go along! Cheers and thanks for the welcome everyone!
