I am looking to amend my template website content for my own business. Do i need to know HTML or use a text editor? How can I amend the text on the website?

Depends on how the website was built in the first place. Is it a static site or database driven? If it's a static site, you will need to know some HTML, you can use a plain text editor and you'll also need a ftp program to download and upload the files from and to your server.

 

If the website is database driven, chances are there'll be an admin page which you'll need to log into. Once logged in you'll be able to edit your content, with no HTML knowledge required.

I think according to your website , you have static template , if you need to edit template , you should have IDE like http://www.adobe.com/products/dreamweaver/ , if u want to edit text , you do not need good html knowedge , you can open the file in design mode and do the changes
