March 14, 201016 yr Good afternoon everyone. I recently secured my first client, woop! It's my girlfriends dad so if I get it wrong I'm doubly in trouble. I've been doing a lot of research on the fundamentals of designing for the web but haven't put it into practise much as I'm just starting out. Here's a mock up for his site. It's an accountancy firm so I shot for clean, clear and bold. Please let me know if I missed!? I'm looking for any advice from designers as to what I could do to give this piece at truly professional look. Be as specific or vague as you think will be helpful! Thanks in advance! Much Love.
March 14, 201016 yr Hi, Jonny. As you saw in my other post I'm new to web design, but I'm not new to design. I think you have done a good job there, it looks professional and simple to navigate. Also, it's not too cluttered. Just a suggestion though, how about making those purple buildings stand out more by adding some contrast to that area. I'm thinking maybe some black/grey buildings infront of the purple and behind to add some depth. Only a suggestion for the design aspect.
March 14, 201016 yr Some portions are really good but others could really use some work. One is the typography. Make your body font bigger and with more leading. I would also make it a dark grey so it doesn't contrast so bad with the stark white background... but thats just a personal opinion. Your services and other buttons look really dated. I would try to make them a little more modern. The layout is decent though I think if you really wanted to be bold, I would try to think of a more different layout. Have fun with it.

March 14, 201016 yr No problem. You can also add a light grey hill or trees even further back. Just play about. That does look better though, nice work.

March 14, 201016 yr He has a good point. It's mainly due to how they are styled. The bevel and emboss would need to be shallower and the rounded edges would need to be smaller/sharper. If you turned them into rectangles and if it was possible to move the text to the left, that would look better. www.good-tutorials.com, if I remember you will find some webdesgin tips there for buttons.
