Tech support to Web Design

Featured Replies

Morning

Just want to introduce myself. I am 24 years old from the north of England.

I completed a foundation degree in multimedia Design in 2007 and since then have been working in the technical support enviroment.

I struggled with my multimedia design course and in all honesty scraped through. Too much time partying and being the typical student etc.

I have been found my love for design again but worried I have left it too late.

Is there a market for a Web Design these days? or does everyone need to know advanced scripping PHP, JAVA etc?

Is there a way to combine after effects with web design? as its a package along with flsh that I simply love.

Any tips or advice in getting into the industry would be great?

Appologies for all the questions just looking for some advice

Cheers

Morning, and welcome :hi:

I would say there certainly is demand for web designers these days, although you're right: it is more common for employers to be looking for people who can write server side code as well.

If you want to get into web design, I would say dive right in! Get a decent portfolio together and you'll have as good a chance as any in landing a job.

cheers for the reply.

Yeah I hope so.

A friend of mine is freelancing and there seems to be a need for good web designs and he gets his work by simply advertising in the yellow pages, I guess this would be good for getting some work in a portfolio.

I do however worry about the whole experience issue but thats another issue. In the meantime just going to practice practice practice.

I'll keep you guys posted.
