I stumbled across your excellent forum while looking for some help on a project I plan to start.

 

I would like to design a website that has an Interactive World Map. When you goto the site I just want the world map displayed and when you roll the mouse over each country it will highlight that country. I want it to also allow the user to click on a country and it will display a new page with various details about that country (i.e. Size, Currency, Population etc)

 

I want to know what should I use to do all this. I have a few world maps which I've downloaded for free. Can these be used and made interactive? Any help or information would be fantastic.

sounds like a job for a Google Maps mashup...

 

otherwise, you could always use image maps.

You could try designing your map or pasting it into photoshop, then cuting it up into slices.

 

Then just assign each image an <a> tag in your html when you piece it together.
