I'm setting up a blog website for a friend who's cycling from Cairo to Cape town and I want to create a map of the route and possibly add GPS tracking which will sync with his iphone. Anyone got any good ideas or tips for making this happen?

have a look through the google maps api. You'll need a bit of javascript knowledge but its quite easy to implement. Theres also lots of examples to look through to help you out.

There's a lot of software you can register on for activating GPRS on your phone.. most of them are for free..maybe you'd like to get a hint on those website
