December 2, 200916 yr I have a website that the home page used to be listed on google. Then all the listings vanished. Now only some pages are appearing in the index but not the main pages. I have used all my normal techniques for getting the site listed (normally i get sites listed in 1 - 4 weeks on google). Yahoo has a reasonable list of pages for the site. Bing only has the home page. The only pages google has gone a visited is the forum which is good but not that usefull. Site in question www.brighton.co.uk Can anyone shed some light to why this might be happening?
December 4, 200916 yr Possibly duplicate content run your domain thru the copyscape reporter You also have quite a few coding errors.
December 4, 200916 yr Author oops doesn't help that I have given you the wrong url try this one... www.brighton.uk.com
December 5, 200916 yr well a quick look suggests to me a couple of things, firstly you have more than one h1 and secondly your home page really doesn't have any content despite it being full of words. The h1 tags are in the right hand news column - these should be h2 or3. What are your 5 or 6 keywords for the site generally? Make sure 2 or 3 are in one h1 placed in the body of the page not a side bar. Although your page is full of words it has no content - what you need is a paragraph near the top of the page that clearly describes what your website is about. If I look at your title and meta description then look at your page text as a search engine would look at it I see 2 different messages. Your page needs to be better constructed as it appears that your right hand column is one of the first things read. This means your title and meta desc suggest you are a business directory however the first text read on your page relates to the gay and lesbian scene. That confused me so it will confuse the search engines and if they see no relation between the title and first h1 and first paragraph they will not rank you. Make sure your page is constructed in a way that ensures the body ie the central bit is read first then put a good paragraph there describing what your web site is about. Another point - it took me a while to work out how to get back to the home page as there was no button where the rest of the menu options are - I would put a home link in line with the rest of the menu. I reckon the lack of relevancy ie relevant content is why its not ranked, hope this helps.
December 7, 200916 yr Author Some good advise there which I will pass on. BUT I not sure that helps with the fact the google just aren't going to many of the pages on the site. Its almost like there ignoring pages.
December 7, 200916 yr Believe me if they do not see the content as relevant they will not bother with it. There may be other factors but I am pretty sure it is the lack of relevant content. Info on one of the pages on my website went out of date and I didn't bother updating it - it stopped being ranked or indexed - then I updated the page and as I recall it was indexed the next day! I think it is a bit of a clue that G is revisiting the forum. Good luck anyway.
