November 27, 200916 yr Well i have decided to create a portfolio website and this is what i have got so far http://www.robwdrivingtuition.co.uk/bsd/ I dont know if i like it, i have the basic kinder design i want but i just think somethings missing, i would prefer to have client work instead of the image but i only have one client so far. Been looking at alot of portfolio websites and they tend to be simple but clean Hmm i dont know, would just love some other peoples opinions before i go any further.
November 27, 200916 yr I think you may have over stepped the "Less is more" effect here lol. I think you should change the background colour to something easier on the eyes and that will really highlight your text because at the moment it's not doing that. I'm not a big fan of the font and the overall look just seems like its had no effort put into it. Sorry it sounds a bit harsh but I think you could improve greatly.
November 27, 200916 yr Author Your right it hasnt had much effort put into it, thats why i wanted to see what people think of what i have before i go further i have only spent a few hours on it. Its only the banner that i like so i might abandon the rest and start again. I have another design which is for a University project, i have only got the main page there. What do you think of that design? I feel it isnt very portfolio, and i know the nav needs some work. The contents aloud of crap on that aswell. http://www.robwdrivingtuition.co.uk/bsd1/home.html
November 27, 200916 yr Again it's quite bland looking and unprofessional, I'm not doubting you could be good. Do you use photoshop? If so you should have a look through something like this to learn the odd trick youl'll find tweeking with your designs and coming up with something a little more eye catching that much easier.
November 28, 200916 yr Author Yeh i use photoshop, i appreciate your comments as im only just getting started in this buisness. I agree the 2nd one is very bland thats why i decided to start a new one.
November 28, 200916 yr Author Updated the design, little problem in firefox at the moment at the top of the rounded divs. Think i will change the yellow to black. Dont know wether to go with Latest news or latest work on the right?
November 29, 200916 yr Author Thanks for the reply Charlotte. Not so keen on making it a gradient, i know what your saying about the narrowness as the main element div is quite narrow but there isnt really much information to go into it and a larger layout might dwarf it. Thanks for the heads up thoght will look at it in diffrent resolutions and screens. Just want something to start from then when i get more clients i will have more content and be able to show that off more.
December 2, 200916 yr Author I have just changed my screen from 1280 to 1024 and i dont see much white space at all in fact the change zoomed me in more. Maybe its just opinions i dont know. And yes i have seen lots of SEO content on portfolio sites such as in the footer listing every single town they cover mentioned. I will look into stuff like this in the future but for now just want to get myself a precence online. So the people who look at my current websites actually know who created them.
