Im not a huge user of illustrator i mainly use photoshop but im just doing a print logo in illustrator at the moment and cant figure out how to delete part of a layer using a selection from another layer (atleast thats how id do this in photoshop). Ive attached an image to better explain, i have whats meant to represent a hill (see bottom left). Ive created the hill using the elipse tool and then by drawing another elipse tool filled in white ive hidden the circle to make my hill. Id like to delete the selection from the white circle but delete it in my green circle (the hill). Not sure if that makes any sense its difficult to explain :/

Anyone ideas ? Surely there must be a way to do this in illustrator. If i were to do this in photoshop id just select my white elipse layer click the layer below (my green elipse) and hit delete.
