'WWW' not working anymore?

Featured Replies

Hi there,

(Sorry if this is the wrong forum for this...)

Just set up a domain name and hosting a few days ago. I wanted to use googlemail with my domain email addresses so went through the process of changing the CNAME so that this would all work correctly.

I have only just realised that since doing this, my website (farm-projects.com) does not work if I include 'www'. Obviously this is a big problem for me which I need to resolve. I have spoken to my host and after about 20 emails back and fourth they have told me to contact google about the situation as they will be able to solve it.

If anyone could just tell me what I can do, and if there is nothing I can do myself then could I have the best contact support email for this situation (was finding it very difficult to get the contact email address for google mail...).

Thanks

The WWW record (as you know) is currently pointing to Google apps. Do you have access to edit your DNS records? If so find the line with WWW and change the hostname from ghs.google.com to farm-projects.com. (make sure you put the 'dot' at the end of the domain. Keep the record type as a CNAME).

Once you've done it, let me know and I'll check again (instead of you waiting for it to propagate, then testing it).

I noticed something like this recently too with my domain. Like Nick said, if you changed the www. CNAME then you'll have to change it back and add another CNAME for mail.farm-projects.com for your google apps. It can take a while to take effect too.
