ordered list shows bullets in IE

Featured Replies

Hi all

Probably an easy one for most of you.... I've tried googling this, but all I get is issues with IE not showing bullets at all, which is not the problem I have.

Basically I have an ordered list showing a, b, c etc, this displays fine in FF, but when I test it in IE, it shows up as bullets.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance! :)

Without your code I'm guessing, but make sure you haven't got list-style-type: none; for either the ol or li tags which would hide the markers and then make sure you have a style similar to this:-

<ol style="list-style-type: lower-alpha">

You can put the style to the li tag instead.

and see if that makes a difference.

That worked!! Added

ol li {

list-style-position:outside;

list-style-type:lower-alpha;

}

to the CSS and that did the trick, thanks very much!!! :)

Now I just thought of something else...

The ul has the bullets left aligned with the text above it, but the ol has the letters a-g indented and I don't know what to do to bring them out to align with the text above it too.

What am I missing? The only difference is that the ul code says "list-style-position:inside", as I enter "outside" it will align the text with the paragraph above it and the bullet will be out to the left.

Thoughts??

Thanks again! :) :)

I haven't got the answer right now, but browsers have different default margins for lists and other tags so start with a general style to get all browsers the same:-

ul, ol, li { margin: 0; padding: 0; }

and check what it looks like. Then add margin-left (possibly negative) to ol or li tags if you have to and see what effect it has.
