working with layers in photoshop

Featured Replies

Hi all, any Photoshop gurus out there please?? :) This is driving me crazy

I'm trying to do my first mock-up in Photoshop, whilst learning about layers at the same time.

I've got a small logo with "Bevel and Emboss" effects applied to it. Now, when I try applying similar effects to other layers, such as the header for example, I notice that as I change these effects, the ones applied to the logo layer change with it.

Why is this? I haven't linked the layers together or anything like that. I bet it's something really obvious for the knowledgeable! :)

Many thanks in advance :)

Right, so finally figured out what was happening, thought I'd post the solution to my problem in case some other unsuspecting newbies have the same issue....

It was the "Shading" under "Bevel and Emboss" I was trying to change, and couldn't understand why it was changing it in all the layers, rather than just the active one.... well I had the "Use Global Light" option selected, so that's why it changed everywhere in the document and not just the selected layer. Duh!!! Isn't it silly how you often can't see what's right in front of you?!?!

I think I need a break.... thank goodness it's Friday :)

Have a good weekend everyone!

Hope you didn't mind me listening in to a conversation with yourself.biggrin.gif

Thanks for the info because I find Photoshop a nightmare.
