i am new to this whole web designing thing, and don't know where to start.

 

Well...i have a domain name already registered and a host selected. Do i have to get web hosing to start designing?

 

I am looking to create something relating to a classified ads site and searches for each category, but i don't know where to begin!

 

can someone shed some light in this regard?

 

I was told that i can use CMS...downloaded a few...but don't know how to use.

You can make a webpage on your computer before signing up to a hosting service, but only you will see it.

 

You can use Notepad to code manually.

 

You will need a ftp program to upload files to the hosting service. IE has one built in.

You probably won't need a CMS if only you is going to do the coding; they are useful if others are given sections to edit.

you should get dreamweaver cs3 or cs4 and then get lynda dreamweaver essential training videos.

 

also go to css-tricks.com and look in the video section as they have some videos for beginners.

 

don't even think about starting with content management systems, it's like trying to drive a car across the country without knowing how to drive.

 

get a nice bicycle with some stabilisers and a funky bell and you'll get a lot further a lot faster.

i have played around with Dreamweaver CS4 a bit and it seems easy to use.

I'd rather skip Dreamweaver and start with Notepad++ instead. The reason for this is that programs like Dreamweaver have a small tendency to auto-make unnessesary code etc, and you don't learn it proper by letting the program "help you" or code for you.

 

I've also found out recently, that the videos at CSS-tricks are amazing and easy to follow and understand, especially the ones wich shows you how to make a PSD file into a fully-functional (x)HTML page with nice CSS markup'ing and everything.

 

I'm a beginner too btw. We're kind'of in the same boat x)

Dude see a lot of tutorials, you have to read a little bit and study HTML with CSS. You can start with that programs, but they aren't the best way for future projects. In Dreamweaver have attention to the section code, with time you will understand how HTML and CSS work.
