I like the forum, nice, simple and clean. Though I think the logo could stand to be a bit bigger.

 

The next site looks like a good start, but could use more polish to make it a bit more professional.

How about SEO ?

Meta keywords generally don't work on most search engine these days, so just stick to a few specific keywords and stick to those. Your meta description seems a bit longwinded. It should summarise the page is resides on, not a duplicate of its content.

the forum looks great

 

the humans in your header div could do with a bit more pink in thier cheeks, they look yellow and washed out/jaundiced

The newsletter text boxes on your second page look a bit outdated.

For SEO the biggest thing is SEF URL's, which you seem to have. Make sure you create some static pages and link them in with some articles and content as well. Other than that, a clean forum.
