Site Review please

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have built my site fairly quickly and so needs some work on the content and a few things to tidy up. Any feedback or suggestions most welcome. Its built in ASP with a CMS database backend. The client wanted the Comic font which I dont like too much? Appreciate all feedback.

Website to review.....

Thanks.

Mick

Hi Mick,

I appreciate you've done it quickly but, for me, there are many issues to address. It looks like a posh house, but the website doesn't reflect that at all.

1) That font is awful for a start, and it reminds me of the "my first website" websites. Needs a more modern one to fit in with the house.

2) The navigation is in a terrible place - much better below the header

3) The latest news column that repeats eats up too much of the page which means you have to scroll down too much. The content could be laid out much better then. It's very 'listy'

4) The chicken needs shooting and eating - not a homepage image.

5) 3-4 pics of the house on the home page, near the top, would be a better selling point.

6) Kippen sounds great LOL

7) I think you only need to say it's a 4 bed house that comfortably sleeps 8, on the homepage. Then make a it clear to click for detailed lay out - was there a floor plan? Might be useful.

Navigation is terrible and feels slapped on. Why not make use of that huge image of the cottage and perhaps have the links within that? Comic Sans is never a good idea so change it! It looks unprofessional the website would be instantly a lot better if you changed the font. The gradients feel a little out of touch too, they're not needed and they run off into each other.

I'd think twice about the centre alignment too.

Also lose the JavaScript nav, its terrible for accessibility and usability.

Edit: You have a few issues with the contrast of some text (dates on the What's On page for example).
